Julius Caesar - in the Gallic Wars (52 of Old Age).
Gaius Julius Caesar was a politician and general of the late Roman republic, who greatly extended the Roman empire before seizing power and making himself dictator at Rome. His actions undermined the republic and paved the way for a system of monarchy headed by emperors (he was not himself a Roman emperor). After his death, his name was adopted as a title by all the Roman emperors, as well as by later monarchs (including the Russian 'Tsars' and German 'Kaisers').
