In the Dark Ages they were quiet mysterious ethnic group because they appeared in ancient literature very sporadically, nobody took care about them and in the 6th century they invade Europe. They took here their culture, crafts, very nice fairy-taleish mythology and their Gods. Our pagan Gods were never forgotten and after hundred years of christian totality their importance is still stronger. Slava Perunu! Since early 6th century they inhabited very large area from the Baltic sea in the west and the Bering sea in the east. I am very proud to introduce you our heritage – heritage of people who gave the World a lot of famous composers (Tchaikovsky, Dvorak, Smetana ...), painters (Mucha, Warhol ...), scientists, architects and heroes (RAF pilots, Serbian partisans, Hussites ...). The Hussites were a protestant movement following the teachings of Czech reformer Jan Hus who was for this teaching burned by spoiled Roman catholic church in Konstanz. After his death there was a large rebbelion in Czech lands (also in southern parts of Poland) that resulted in Hussite Wars ... it is one of the most famous part of Czech history when Czechs fought against the whole Catholic Europe, even Joan of Arc threatened to invade Czech lands, and also thanks to fenomenal tactics of commander Jan Zizka they won many battles.
The Hussite Wars (also called the Bohemian Wars) were military actions in Bohemia in the period 1420 to circa 1434. The Hussite Wars were first European war in which gunpowder weapons (muskets) wre massively used. And from example name English name of "pistol" is derived from the Hussite weapon: "pistala".
The Hussite warriors were basically infantry and they defeated larger armies with heavily armoured knights.
Today Hussitan protestants has one of the biggest church in Czech lands.
