Viking Swords

Viking Swords

We define Viking swords as cold weapons from the 8th-1th centuries that developed from the Roman spatha in the period of the great national migrations. It is a double-edged sword with a typical wide blade (4 - 6 cm) and a length of 60 – 90 cm. The shapes of the hilt and pommel enable the more precise classification of Viking swords in Jan Petersen’s typology. Early medieval (Norman) Romanesque swords are the successors of the Viking swords. Ours are sold dull, as they are intended for historical fencing. In our Arma Epona smithy we specialize in forging sharp functional swords for collectors.
