The helmet of the Praetorian Guard. The Praetorian Guard(Praetorians) was an elite unit that served as the personal guard of Roman emperors. This title was already used during the Roman Republic for the guards of Roman generals.
Unfortunately, no original helmets have survived. This version is based on one of the many traditional depictions on Roman stone reliefs.
The helmet is made of brass and forms a real centrepiece thanks to the rich ornamentation. It has brass cheek pads, a red horsehair crest and an adjustable leather liner.
