The litus was an ancient Etruscan musical instrument, similar to the Gallic Carnyx. It was later used by the Romans for processional music and as a signal horn in the Roman army. This Lituus is a copy of one found in Castell, Germany. Similar instruments were used in Germany until the 17th century by night watchmen.
A truly amazing toy, it is very easy to play and can produce both deep and dark trumpeting (similar to a great horn) and cheerful trumpet-like sounds.
