Therefore, the Slavs believed that warrior who wears bearskin gains strength, endurance and power of this animal, which helps him in battle.

Bear is the animal form of God Veles and, according to Slavic mythology, it represents Forest Ruler, who cares for animals and the forest itself, and he banishes witches and evil spirits from it.

Because of its resemblance to man and its need to fearlessly defend its territory and offsprings, bear is considered to be a mythical ancestor of many Slavic tribes.
