THOR'S HAMMER, Oseberg style, Norway, tin

8.00 €
(catalogue number: VPE107)

The design of this Thor's hammer was inspired by the Viking Oseberg style which is known from a large burial mound at the Oseberg farm near Tønsberg in Vestfold County, Norway. The head motif is based on a bow of an Oseberg drakkar ship. This hammer will protect you on the ground (the knotted horses), in the sea (the beast), and in the sky (the Thor's hammer). Mjöllnir is a magical weapon which belongs to the Norse god Thor.

The hammer flies through the sky in the form of a lightning. The word Mjöllnir means "grinder or crusher". To be able to handle the hammer Thor wears a pair of iron gloves and a strength belt. The mjöllnir amulets were worn by the Norse seamen and warriors.
