Valkyrie - replica of a find from the 10th century, Sweden. In Norse mythology, a valkyrie (from Old Norse - valkyrja "chooser of the slain") is a female being (protection deity) who chooses who may die in battle and who may live. The half of those who die in battle are then taken to Valhalla, a place ruled by Odin. There, the fallen warriors become einherjar (Old Norse for "once fighters").
