(catalogue number: LHE48)

Medieval wax book, Dyptichon. This set includes a wooden wax book (four blank panels), a brass pen (stylus) and a leather pouch. The flat end of the pen is used to erase entries in the wax.

Similar wax books or tablets were used by the ancient Romans. Because paper was so expensive, these books remained in use until the early modern period.

The pouch is fitted with a leather strap for attaching to a belt.

  • Dimensions of the book bag: approx. 13 × 10 × 3 cm
  • Pouch material: approx. 2 mm thick red leather
