Handmade stone mill
It is believed that handmade millstones were already known in Europe and the Middle East in pre-Roman times. Our replica is based on Roman originals, but is of course also suitable for medieval reenactment.
The grinder consists of two circular carved stones, which are connected by a steel bar in the centre. After the grain has been poured between the millstones, the upper stone can be rotated by means of a wooden handle to grind the grain into flour.
Our mill is a historical prop! As the stones have a certain roughness, the resulting flour is not suitable for food preparation. However, this object is great for demonstrating ancient and medieval milling techniques.
