Iceland spar, also known as Iceland crystal (Icelandic: silfurberg), is a transparent variety of calcite.
It is possible that the sunstone (Old Norse: sólarsteinn) mentioned in medieval Icelandic texts was Iceland spar, and that Vikings used for navigational purposes.
