Old Slavs

Slavic Shop - The Slavic peoples are a linguistic and ethnic branch of Indo-European peoples whose original homeland was an area between the rivers of the Dniester and the Visla. In the Dark Ages they were a quiet mysterious ethnic group, they appeared in ancient literature very sporadically, and not much attention was paid to them until the 6th century when they invaded Europe. They brought here their culture, crafts, a very nice fairy-taleish mythology and their Gods. Our pagan Gods were never forgotten, and after hundreds of years of Christian dominance their importance is stronger than ever. Slava Perunu!

Since the early 6th century the Slavs have inhabited a very large area - from the Baltic Sea in the west to the Bering sea in the east. We feel very proud to introduce our heritage to you – the heritage of people who gave the World many famous composers (Tchaikovsky, Dvorak, Smetana ...), painters (Mucha, Warhol ...), scientists, architects and heroes (RAF pilots, Serbian partisans, Hussites...). Let's not forget Vodka, Pilsen and Budweiss beer, as well as beautiful women.

You can buy perfect Slavic jewellery replicas, smithy works or other goods with Slavic symbology.

MORANA, Slavic Goddess of death

Catalog number: SBH19

Your Price: 16.00 €

Morana is a part of a continuous cycle of life and death. She comes from nowhere and she’s not going anywhere, she has been present since the begining of time, and will be here as long as it exists, inextricably bonded to Svarog, as an antipode to the one who creates life... life that she would, when the time comes, take to the realm of the dead, world our ancestors - to Nav. Thus she does by sailing in the boat made of walnut tree, known as the tree of the dead in Slavic mythology.

Many rivers throughout the Slavic world (such as the Morava and Moravica) bear her name, because Morana reigns over rivers and seas.

Morana is also known as the Goddess of winter and she was expected with fear by the Slavs and her departure was celebrated loudly and joyfully, with many rituals – the most common one was making the straw puppet representing this goddess for the people to hit with sticks, throw into the water or burn and in this manner ritually destroy Winter. In March, another ritual connected to Morana would be performed. A procession of masked people would be organized to scare and chase away Morana.

Morana is probably the most powerful deity of all, but she is not evil ... She is the deity of inevitable, of what must be. There is no escape from her, and no one can question her power  - She likes warriors and farmers and all mankind, for we are all mortal, and all of us eventually end up in her arms.

DAŽBOG, Slavic God of Sun, figure

Catalog number: SBH21

Your Price: 16.00 €

DAJBOG - The Giving God. Dajbog is one of the sons of Svarog, the Sungod, the one who gives light, rain and fertility – everything that is good. The Slavs believed that Dajbog travels the heavens every day in a magical quadriga yoked with four white horses with fiery manes and golden wings, and that the sunlight comes from the fiery shield that Dajbog carries with Him. At night he would die and go to the Underworld, in order to be resurrected in the morning. Also, it was believed that Dajbog spends summer months in our, real world, giving us Sun, while in the winter he goes down into Nav.

He had a magnificent posture, beautiful golden hair and sky blue eyes nothing could be hidden from. Serbs would represent Dajbog as a quiet, gentle and good-natured old man with white hair and beard, with a jerkin around his shoulders and with a rod in his hand. It is believed that he was the incarnation of the white wolf, our mythical ancestor and the supreme god from the ages of animism, so the wolf was his faithful companion.

PERUN, Slavic God, magnet

Your Price: 9.00 €

Goods is sold out and cannot be ordered

Perun is the mightiest of Slavic Gods, God of princesses and knights, invincible warrior, the creator of thunder and lightning. He maintains order in the Universe, grants victory in a battle and protects the state and the rulers. Of all the gods, he has the closest relationship with the mankind, and as a very powerful God he was honored even by non-Slavic people.

He rules the natural phenomena such as rain, lightning, thunder, clouds and hail and uses them to influence people's lives. He is often linked to the cults of water, trees and stones. Perun's weapons are rod, bow, arrows (lightnings) and axe which is his most significant mark. He is represented as an eldrely man, with silver-gray hair and golden beard. It was believed that the thunder was, in fact, the sound of him riding his battle gig across the heavens. Thursday is the day dedicated to Perun. On that day, the priests used to consecrate oak trees and light fires to protect people from lightning.
