The Roman lance Beneficiarius is documented from the 1st century AD and performed various tasks in the Roman Empire. Within the legions, they were selected from the rank of Principales, which were non-commissioned officers. In addition to their normal duties, beneficarii were stationed as a form of traffic police on the outer and important inner borders of the empire, where they controlled the movement of goods, for example.

The lance, which we offer here, was their most important identifying feature, making them visible from a distance.
