NORMAN Sword. The sword is inspired by the swords of the 13th. Medieval sword crowned with a “cocked-hat” pommel. These pommels were originally found in Scandinavia. The sword hilts were generally mounted on a type X or type XII blade.

These pommels, classified by Petersen as Type Y, were used through the 11th and 12th centuries. During the 13th century this kind of pommel remained but became more massive. There are many examples throughout Europe:

  • 13th century manuscript from Goslar (about 1230)
  • a sword found in Hungary
  • a sword from Brunau
  • a sword of Ulrich von Regensburg in Zurich (grave-slab)
  • a mid-13th century sword, Copenhagen.
