Amber from the Baltic Sea region, especially from Poland, has a rich history and significance going back thousands of years. As early as Neolithic times, amber was collected on the coast and gradually became a valuable trade item. The Romans called it the "gold of the north" and imported it along the so-called Amber Road to Italy. In Polish areas such as Gdańsk, amber became a symbol of craftsmanship. Here, craftsmen made jewellery, amulets and objects of religious significance. In the folk tradition, amber was considered a protective stone that protects against evil forces, brings health and calms the mind. It is still attributed with healing effects, for example for sore throats and respiratory problems. In artistic and cultural contexts, amber represents a connection between nature and history, as the trapped inclusions of insects or plants are reminiscent of the ancient world. Baltic amber is a witness to the past that connects generations.
