Playing cards featuring Irish ornaments are inspired by the art of early medieval Ireland, when monks in monastic scriptoria copied the Gospels and created beautifully decorated manuscripts.
These Irish illuminations are among the finest examples of Insular art. Their decoration is characterised by intricate geometric patterns, interlacing ornaments and vibrant colours. One of the most famous examples is the Book of Kells, created around AD 800 and still regarded as one of the treasures of Ireland's cultural heritage.
The decorative designs on the cards reflect this rich artistic tradition. The cards are suitable for traditional card games and make an original gift for lovers of Ireland, Celtic culture and history.
