The Order of the Dragon, Latin Societas Draconistarum, was a noble order founded in 1408 and was also known as the Order of the Slain Dragon or the Order of the Dragon Knights. The most famous member of the Order of the Dragon is probably Vlad III. Draculea, the historical antecedent of the famous fictional character Count Dracula.

Originally, the symbol of the Order of the Dragon was the Uroboros, a so-called self-devouring, circular-shaped dragon that devours its own tail, but over time the symbol of the Order of the Dragon changed to a dragon with its tail wrapped around its neck.

Knights of the Order of the Dragon wore the dragon symbol directly on their clothing as a neck or shoulder decoration and pledged to defend Christianity against the Turks. Two dragon slayers, St. George and Margaret of Antioch, were considered patron saints of the Order of the Dragon.
