This pencil with Celtic helmet decoration is made of lead-free pewter and features a 3D model of the Celtic helmet from Waterloo. It is mounted on a 13cm long black wooden pencil with the word 'Celtic' and two Celtic knot motifs printed in silver.
The Waterloo Celtic helmet takes its name from the place where it was found. The original helmet was recovered from the River Thames at Waterloo Bridge in the early 1860s. It is the only Celtic helmet ever found in southern England and the only Celtic horned helmet ever discovered in the whole of Europe. It is unlikely to have been used in combat, and probably served as a ceremonial headdress.
