Perun is the Slavic God of thunder, lightning and battle, patron of warriors and protector of families. He rules the heavens and is often depicted as a burly, bearded man with a sword or axe, which symbolizes lightning and divine power. His blows bring storms, rain and cleansing, and he was therefore worshipped not only as a war god but also as one who ensures balance and justice in the world. Perun stood on sacred hills where fires were lit and sacrifices were offered to him. Christians later identified him with Saint Ilya to suppress his cult. Our statue is hand carved, depicting Perun with his sword as a symbol of heavenly power and protection.
