The Claymore is a Scottish variant of the late medieval two-handed sword. Typical features are the forward-facing guards, topped with four-lobed shapes to protect the hands.

The claymore sword was used from the 15th to the 17th century, especially during the Clan Wars and the fighting on the borders with England. Early forms, though smaller, existed during the Wars of Scottish Independence. The last known battle where it was used in large numbers was the Battle of Killiecrankie in 1689.

Compared to other two-handed swords of the time, the claymore was longer. It evolved from older Scottish medieval swords with a forward-facing guard. The average length was about 140 cm, of which about 33 cm was the hilt and 107 cm the blade. The weight was about 2,5 kg.
