Gladiator II - The Most Anticipated Film of 2024

If there’s anyone who knows how to break boundaries and push the limits of action scenes and epic storytelling, it’s director Ridley Scott. He wasn’t afraid to name his film Gladiator II and loosely continue the story of General Maximus Decimus Meridius (Russell Crowe), who as an experienced gladiator challenged the emperor himself. The original film remains one of the most acclaimed films of all time. Now, over 20 years later, it has a sequel.

We can look forward to countless action-packed and grandiose scenes, including a massive naval attack on a city, arena battles, and breathtaking views of the Eternal City of Rome. “This is the biggest film I’ve ever been in!” says Denzel Washington. We are especially proud that Drakkaria had the honor of collaborating with the filmmakers.

A Czech Touch in the Film

A year before the movie's premiere, the CEO of our company, Miroslav Dobrý, received what seemed like an ordinary email requesting a large quantity of film props to be delivered to Malta... and of course, it was urgent. But a closer look at the screen revealed the English signature in the email - A Ridley Scott Film! A deep breath, and we were on it :) The request was for Czech historical glass. The glassworks worked even on weekends, operating at 100%, and within a week, we were shipping the goods on pallets to Malta. Communication with the filmmakers was excellent, and they greatly appreciated the quality of Czech glassmaking.

Gladiator 2: The Story

The story revolves around the now-grown Lucius, whom you may remember from the first film as Commodus’s nephew. He lives peacefully with his family in North Africa, beyond the borders of the Roman Empire. His city is attacked by a Roman army led by General Marcus Acacius. Lucius is captured.

Along with others, he finds himself in the Colosseum, where he sees his mother in the company of General Marcus Acacius. However, Lucilla does not recognize her son.

Gladiator 2: Cast

The lead role of Lucius is portrayed by the charismatic Irish actor Paul Mescal. The film also features Danish actress Connie Nielsen (Lucilla) as Lucius’s mother. The tough General Marcus Acacius is played by Pedro Pascal (The Last of Us, Game of Thrones), and Denzel Washington takes on the role of the merchant Macrinus. The Roman emperors Geta and Caracalla are portrayed by Joseph Quinn and Fred Hechinger.
