The silver pendant GLADIATOR with the Latin inscription Dum spiro spero (While I breathe, I hope) is a widely recognized motto. We collaborated on the film Gladiator II by Ridley Scott.
This motto is claimed by several family clans, such as the Scottish clans MacLennan, Liversidge, Doran, and Partidge.
The meaning of the phrase Dum spiro spero can be traced back to the work of the Greek poet Theocritus (3rd century BC), who wrote: “While there's life, there's hope, and only the dead have none.” This sentiment became widespread by the time of the Roman statesman known as Marcus Tullius Cicero.

This phrase also appears in modern times, such as on the seal of South Carolina, printed in March 1785. At one point, it also became the motto of the town of St. Andrews in Scotland and has been visible in the town’s heraldry since the mid-19th century.
In the Czech Republic, it serves as the motto of the Prostějov-based 601st Special Forces Group of General Moravec.
