This Celtic buckle dates from the early Late Latin period, 400-275 BC, and is a typical representative of La Tène 1 Ba type buckles, in which the spherical horn was often bent back in a wide arc to form the buckle arm.

The historical model is a find from Wiltshire, England, where the clasp was made of bronze. Clasps of this type were common clothing fasteners in the Celtic Iron Age and variants of them are found across Europe.

In this smaller variant, the clasps were worn in pairs on the shoulders to hold together the dresses of Celtic women.

The Lateran clasp measures 4.3 × 11 × 0.9 cm and is therefore almost identical to the historical original.
