Danu is an ancient Celtic Goddess, believed to be the mother of all thegods andgoddesses of the Tuatha Dé Danann tribe who, according to legend, came to Ireland from another world. Her name is associated with the life-giving power of the earth, rivers and fertility. Danu embodies wisdom, abundance and the endless cycle of nature, which is why she was revered as the protector of mankind and animals.
Although few direct written sources survive, her cult has deeply influenced Irish mythology and later folk traditions. Both the River Don in Britain and the Danube River (Danube) bear a name that probably derives from her root.
