The Celtic triskelion (or also triskele) is an ancient symbol formed by three spirals or arms coming from a common centre. Its origins date back deep into the Latin Age (c. 5th-1st century BC), when it appears on jewellery, weapons and stone monuments of Celtic culture.
Archaeological findings attest to its occurrence particularly in Ireland, Scotland and Brittany, areas with a strong Celtic heritage. The triskele was seen as a sign of movement, balance and the cycle of life. The three arms could symbolise nature, spirituality and man or the past, present and future.
In folk tradition, it also became a protective sign and a sign of connection to the forces of nature. Today, it is one of the most well-known Celtic symbols and recalls the deep spiritual and cultural roots of the Celtic world.
