Brass buckle "Kerberos"
Kerberos - according to Greek myths, a three-headed dog that guarded the gate to Hades (the realm of the dead). He did not let the living in or the dead out. Yet, according to legend, a few brave men managed to sneak past the fearsome guardian - and Heracles even managed to capture him. On the back of the buckle is a depiction of the moth Acherontia atropos, known as the "deathhead". Its name comes from two words: Acheron - a tributary of the River Styx, through whose poisonous waters Charon ferried the souls of the dead to the realm of shadows - and Atropos - the eldest of the trio of barrels that cut the thread of life woven by their sisters.
The buckle is cast in brass. Each buckle is hand-worked after casting. It is then given a patina and polished again. The buckle comes with a brass frame in a choice of two sizes (38mm and 45mm) for later attachment to a belt.
