Lampwork glass bead, also known as a lampwork bead or glass bead, has a long and well-documented history dating back to the 2nd millennium BC. Archaeological finds from ancient Egypt prove the production of glass beads by winding molten glass onto a rod, often decorated with colored threads and eye motifs. In ancient Rome, lampwork beads spread as common jewelry and trade goods and are found in graves across the entire empire.

In Europe, glass beads also appear among the Celts, where they had both decorative and symbolic significance. Important finds come from oppida and burial sites. During the Middle Ages, production and trade continued to develop, and in the time of the Vikings, lampwork beads became important items of long-distance trade – found in graves and settlements from Scandinavia to Eastern Europe.

The production involves winding molten glass onto a metal rod, allowing a wide variety of shapes, colors, and decorations. These glass beads are still used today in jewelry making, especially for necklaces and bracelets. Each piece is a unique original continuing a thousand-year-old craft tradition.
