- Lorica Segmentata, Roman armour
This Roman lorica segmentata is made of 1,2 mm (18 gauge) steel. The design of the armour allows freedom of movement. It fits a chest circumference of 107-117 cm.
It is believed that this type of armour was introduced into the ranks of the Roman armyin the 1st century AD and was used extensively at the height of the Roman Empire. This replica, designed by Luca Giampadi, is precisely made of steel and is faithfully based on a type of lorica found in Newstead, Scotland, dating from the 2nd century AD. This armour is very flexible and gives the wearer plenty of freedom of movement.
