Gothic cuirass, 15th century, steel 1,2 mm.

This beautifully detailed reconstruction of a late medieval cuirass is inspired by a 15th century German original (c. 1465). Made of 1.2 mm steel, it consists of a breastplate and backplate.

The front plate is equipped with three sliding slats (called foulards) that protect the hips, waist, groin and lower abdomen. The back section is terminated by an extended back section (culet) consisting of three overlapping slats which protect the buttocks. All parts are connected by steel rivets. The front and back bear the characteristic features of late medieval Gothic plate armour (layered appearance, ridges, decorative cut-outs). The inner part of the armour is blackened for better protection against corrosion.

The two halves of the cuirass are fastened around the body with adjustable leather straps and buckles, allowing a close fit to different sizes. The straps and buckles are tightly riveted at the shoulder area and on the sides of the back plate.

This fully wearable cuirass is ideal for late medieval and renaissance settings.
