Churburg gloves - medieval gauntlets, pair, 14th century

1.2 mm steel, brass and leather

In the late medieval and early modern periods, plate gloves were an indispensable part of armour, protecting the hands and wrists in close combat and during jousting tournaments.

These late medieval battle gloves, which we offer as a pair, are also known as hourglass gloves due to their distinctive hourglass-like shape. They are very similar to the gloves from the famous Churburg Armour No. 13. The original full plate armour, which according to historical records was made in Milan at the end of the 14th century (around 1390), is now on display in the armoury of the Castle of Churburg (Castel Coira) in South Tyrol, Italy.

Handmade with historical precision

Our Churburg gloves are handmade from steel with a thickness of 1 to 1.2 mm (slight variations in material thickness may occur due to handmade production). Like the original examples, they are decorated and reinforced with brass plates across the knuckles, wrist and lower cuff. The interior is blackened for better corrosion resistance and features soft suede leather gloves that are sewn tightly into the interior.

These fingerless gloves not only impress with their historically faithful appearance, but also provide good mobility. Wearing comfort is provided by the integrated suede gloves and additional thick leather padding, which is sewn and riveted to protect the hands from rubbing against the steel plates.

Of course, these articulated and fully wearable plate gauntlets can be combined with knightly armor other than that of the Churburg. They are ideal for late medieval equipment and particularly suitable for representing a 14th century European warrior or knight. Please note, however, that these steel gloves are not intended for combat reconstruction, but rather as a high quality costume accessory or collector's/decorative piece.
