The badge Monstrum Avis Simiae (Bird Monster Monkey) is a faithful replica of an absurd illumination from the summer part of the medieval Breviary of Renaud de Bar (manuscript Verdun, BM, 107) from 1302-1305. This manuscript was produced in Metz, France, and is now housed in the municipal library of Verdun. The scene depicts a determined hare, stick in hand, taming a fantastic hybrid as a rider. These satirical puns are an excellent example of the medieval imagination that loved to play with the animal world. This original motif can adorn your clothing as a meticulously laser engraved and detailed hand-painted oak plywood badge.

The Codex Marginalium series brings a playful revival of medieval manuscripts in the form of original badges that represent a unique combination of modern technology and traditional craftsmanship. The motifs are based on medieval marginalia - bizarre, humorous and often absurd scenes from the margins of historical manuscripts. These faithful replicas are transferred by precision laser engraving into quality oak plywood and then hand-painted in detail, making each piece a complete original. The overall distinctive humour and character of each badge is further emphasised by the playful Latin, or rather pseudo-Latin, name.
