The historical model of this replica of a Roman fibula dates from the 2nd-3rd century AD and is part of a private Austrian collection.
Several examples of this ROMA pin have been found, all bearing the openwork monogram with the Latin letters R, M and A, the letter O being represented by the circular base of the fibula itself. One such find was even discovered on the Isle of Wight in England.
It is believed that these pins were sold in ancient Rome as a kind of souvenir, which a visitor could use at home to testify (and boast) that he had visited the capital of the Roman world.
