Roman helmet type Weisenau - imperial Gallic "B"

This Roman helmet is a faithful replica of one of the oldest types of iron helmets used by the legions of the Emperor Augustus at the end of the 1st century BC. The distinctive feature is the embossed detail of the eyebrows and the rivet head decorated with glass (coral). The helmet is made of 18 gauge steel and iron (approx. 1.2 mm thick) and is complemented by brass decorative elements that underline its historical authenticity.

It was originally classified as an Imperial Italian type helmet by Russell Robinson, but is now known as an Imperial Gaulish B. It does not have a faceplate (visor), which was not yet completely widespread in this period. The dating falls in the late 1st century BC to early 1st century AD.

The helmet is inspired by a find from Klakanje (present-day Croatia, formerly Yugoslavia).
