The Scottish Historical Ruler of Kings and Queens is made of plastic and measures 30 cm. It displays the scale in both inches and centimetres. The inch side contains 1/16th inch pieces and the centimetre side contains 1 millimetre pieces.

The front of the ruler shows the Cross of St Andrew (Saltire) and the Royal Standard of Scotland on a tartan background. In the centre is the title 'Scotland history ruler'.

On the back of the ruler is a timeline of Scottish kings and queens. It begins in 843 with the accession of Kenneth MacAlpine and continues until 1952 when Elizabeth II became Queen of Scotland. Significant events include 1296 (the Second Commonwealth), 1328 (the Treaty of Edinburgh), 1320 (the Declaration of Arbroath), 1603 (the Union of the Crowns) and 1746 (the Battle of Culloden).
