- Tournament Knight, medieval pendant
Medieval pendant "Knight on horseback".
The medieval pendant depicts in great detail a knight on horseback inserting a spear to attack or stab. The coat of arms and helmet decoration are clearly visible. The horse is dressed in ring armour and is clearly recognisable as a stallion.
The historical model of this medieval pendant dates from the 14th century AD and is now owned by the Museum of London. Link to historical model...
The medieval pendant measures 3.4 x 2.7 cm and is therefore about 1/3 smaller than the original.
Tournaments were an integral part of state events or festivals in the Middle Ages, marking the making of treaties, weddings and royal visits. They were popular with young would-be knights and those nostalgic for a bygone golden age of chivalry, and commoners also basked in the splendour and significance of these events.
