Hel is the Norse goddess of the underworld and the ruler of the realm of the dead called Helheim. She is the daughter of Loki, and her appearance is half alive and half dead, symbolizing the transition between the world of the living and the dead. She rules over the souls of those who did not die in battle, but passed away from natural causes, illness, or old age. Unlike the warrior afterlife in Valhalla, Hel represents a calm and inevitable end. She is neither evil nor cruel, but rather relentless and just. She embodies the cycle of Life, Death, and Fate, which cannot be escaped or deceived.
