Medieval button in the shape of an acorn. This medieval acorn-shaped button was made from a historic model from the Tudor period and is ideal for late medieval and renaissance garments.

The medieval acorn shaped button measures 1,2 cm and is made of high quality bronze.

Buttons in the shape of spheres or acorns were widespread in the late Middle Ages and during the Renaissance. However, buttons came into fashion relatively late and there is almost no evidence of them before the mid-13th century.

In the Middle Ages, buttons were usually made of pewter, but also of brass or bronze. In the early 14th century, cloth-covered buttons also appeared. In the Middle Ages, buttons with small eyelets were particularly common.

Buttons as we know them today, with two or four holes, were not very common before the 16th century. Unlike today, in the Middle Ages a button was usually attached directly to the edge of the garment. On the opposite side was an eyelet, which always left a narrow gap between two parts of the garment.
