The axe, or bartka - a sharp axe with a small blunt part (hammer) and a long handle - is a typical tool of the inhabitants of the Carpathian mountains: the Hutsuls, Boykes, Lemkos, Highlanders, Romanians, Hungarians and even American Indians.

The buckle is made of brass by casting. After casting, it is hand-worked and patinated. The buckle comes with a 38 mm wide brass frame for later attachment to a belt.
