This faithful replica of a Celtic fibula is based on a find from Grave No. 44 at Moserstein near Dürrnberg in Hallein, where numerous artefacts from the La Tène period were discovered.

The fibula is decorated with characteristic circular eye and angular ornaments, a typical feature of Celtic brooches of this type.

Thanks to its size, this Certosa fibula is ideal for fastening a heavy cloak made of sturdy fabric on the shoulder.

The Certosa Fibula

The Certosa fibula developed during the 6th–5th centuries BC, at the transition from the Hallstatt to the La Tène period, and is considered the direct successor of the so-called Peschiera fibula.

This type of brooch was widespread from Italy across the south-eastern Alps to the Balkans. It was usually made of bronze, more rarely of iron or precious metals.

In the territories inhabited by the Celts, the Italian Certosa fibula evolved during the 5th century BC into the characteristic La Tène fibula, which spread as far as northern Germany and Scandinavia during the second half of the La Tène period.
