The Celtic triskelion (or triskele) is an ancient symbol consisting of three spirals or arms radiating from a common center. Its origins date back to the La Tène period (approx. 5th–1st centuries BCE), when it appeared on jewelry, weapons, and stone monuments of Celtic culture.
Archaeological finds document its presence primarily in Ireland, Scotland, and Brittany—regions with a strong Celtic heritage. The triskelion was understood as a symbol of movement, balance, and the cycle of life. Its three arms could symbolize nature, the spiritual realm, and humanity; or the past, present, and future.
In folk tradition, it also became a protective symbol and a sign of connection with the forces of nature. Today, it is one of the best-known Celtic symbols and serves as a reminder of the deep spiritual and cultural roots of the Celtic world.
