Trilobites are an extinct group of arthropods. These marine animals lived in ancient seas hundreds of millions of years ago and are among the most famous fossils in the world. Thanks to their three-lobed body and the large number of preserved fossils, trilobites are considered a symbol of paleontology and are highly sought after by collectors and nature enthusiasts.
Trilobites of the genus Conocoryphe come from the Middle Cambrian period, about 500 million years ago. An interesting feature of this genus is that its representatives did not have developed eyes. It is believed that they lived buried in fine mud on the sea floor, where eyesight was not important for their way of life.
Trilobites are also closely connected with the Czech lands. Central Bohemia, especially the area around Prague and Beroun, is world-famous for its rich fossil sites. Important research on trilobites was carried out here in the 19th century by the French paleontologist Joachim Barrande, whose work made Czech trilobites known worldwide. As a result, Czech finds of trilobites are among the best known and most studied in the world.
Handmade – small variations in the internal structure and colour are a sign that each piece is original.
