This medieval heart pendant was inspired by a pilgrim's sign from France, which dates from 1350-1424 AD. The original is now owned by the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Valenciennes.

The inscription "Amours" is often found on medieval tokens or pilgrimage signs and signifies love, suggesting that it could be used as a gift of love between two lovers.

In medieval symbolism, the heart signifies goodness, love and life itself. The heart symbol comes from stylized depictions of fig and ivy leaves as they appeared in the 3rd millennium BC. It can be found. Eventually, in medieval love literature of the 12th and 13th centuries, heart-shaped ivy leaves appear in love scenes and soon spread throughout Europe as a symbol of love.
