"Helm of Awe" Brass Belt Buckle

Helm of Awe, also known as the Helmet of Terror (Ægishjálmur), is a term known from Norse mythology and later also became the name for an Icelandic magical symbol. The symbol most commonly associated with Ægishjálmur today originates from the Icelandic manuscript Huld, written and compiled in 1847.

In Norse sagas, the “Helmet of Awe” is also mentioned as an actual object. The hero Sigurd obtained it from the hoard of the dragon Fáfnir after slaying him.

The buckle is cast from brass, and each piece is then hand-finished. The surface is treated with a patina and then polished again, giving it a distinctive three-dimensional appearance.

The buckle includes a brass frame for attaching to a belt, available in two sizes— 38 mm or 45 mm.
