The Daoine Dé Danann, or more commonly Tuatha Dé Danann ("Tribes/People of the Goddess Dan"), are a supernatural nation of gods and heroes in Irish mythology.
After being defeated by the Milesians (the mythical ancestors of the Irish), the Tuatha Dé Danann retreated to the sídhe - sacred hills and other worlds hidden from human sight. This is the origin of the later name Aos Sí or Daoine Sí ("people of the hills"), beings known in folk traditions as fairies, elves and inhabitants of the Other World.
