Daoine Dé Danann, or more commonly Tuatha Dé Danann (“Tribes/People of the Goddess Danu”), are a supernatural race of gods and heroes in Irish mythology.
After their defeat by the Milesians (the mythical ancestors of the Irish), the Tuatha Dé Danann retreated into the sídhe – sacred hills and other worlds hidden from human sight. This gave rise to the later names Aos Sí or Daoine Sí (“people of the hills”), referring to beings known in folk traditions as fairies, sprites and inhabitants of the Otherworld.
