This Roman enamel shield is made of metal with red enamel and gold details. It comes on a high quality keyring. The model represents a scutum shield used by a Roman legionary. The keychain is presented on a card with a Roman motif.
To become a legionary, one had to be a Roman citizen. Legionaries were not just soldiers - in addition to fighting, they also built important structures such as forts, bridges and roads.
In addition to weapons, a shield was essential for legionaries. The scutum was a large rectangular curved shield made of three layers of wood that were glued together and covered with canvas and leather. It had a distinctive metal protrusion in the middle. When fighting against enemies armed with swords and spears, it provided the soldier with essential protection.
