Krakonoš - the lord and protector of our highest mountains and the Krkonoše nature. The German name for Krakonoš is Rübezahl, but the name is probably much older and is derived from the Celtic tribe Corconti, which is mentioned by Claudios Ptolemy in his work. The first depiction of the Krakonoš is associated with Martin Helwig's map of Silesia, published in 1561, where the antlered figure is shown holding a staff next to Sněžka. Bohuslav Balbín also refers to him as an apparition who changes forms and can be seen as a hunter, miner, monk or in the form of various animals.
Krakonoš is the true spirit of the mountains, he remembers the different ethnic groups that have changed here. Some see in him a spirit that has something in common with the Celtic Cernunnos, others see in him a fairy-tale creature. But one thing is common - be with him all for good!
