Historical buckle. Replica of a buckle from Kievan Rus, dating ca.: 10th - 11th century.
Kievan Rus was a medieval state formation existing from the 9th to the 13th century in the territory of present-day Ukraine, Belarus and part of Russia. It was founded by Vikings (Varangians) who settled among Slavic tribes and adopted Slavic language and culture. The capital was Kiev, which became a political, commercial and cultural centre. Kievan Rus disappeared due to Mongol raids and internal strife, leading to its fragmentation into smaller principalities.
