Medieval brooch in bronze in the shape of a flower with six lobes, on the reverse with Lombard script and the inscription + AVE MARIA GRACIA PLENA DON (NOBIS PACEM) - Holy Mary, full of grace, give (us peace).

Origin: England or France, 1300-1350.

Brooches were used in the medieval period to fasten garments, usually around the neck. The most common form was the circular ring brooch, but brooches have also been found in many unusual shapes, such as this six-pointed star.
