Medieval hanging pan with hook, hand forged steel
A replica of a medieval hanging pan, it is hand forged from iron. Suitable for any camp - not only for reenactment or LARP, but also for any outdoor event.
The pan can be hung on a hook or, thanks to its flat shape, placed on a tripod or directly into the fire.
The pan is made of non-corrosive steel and has therefore been lightly oiled to protect against corrosion.
Maintenance instructions
Before first use, the iron pan must be properly "fired" (greased). Before you start, it is very important to wash the pan thoroughly with hot water, a brush or sponge and detergent, and then dry it thoroughly. Next, pour enough high smoke point oil (lard can also be used) into the pan to evenly cover the entire surface, and heat it to a high temperature. Add the raw potato skins or slices, a teaspoon of salt and fry until the bottom of the pan darkens and the potatoes turn a dark brown colour (turning them over as they fry). When the empty pan has cooled, just wipe it with a paper towel.
After cleaning and conditioning, the pan should not come into contact with any cleaning agent. A dishwasher is also unsuitable. After use, clean the pan with a paper towel or hot water. Finally, lightly re-grease the pan.

The medieval field kitchen was simple and adapted to the harsh conditions of travel or military campaigns. The food had to be quick, filling and made from available ingredients such as cereals, pulses or meat. There were no modern cooking units in the army, but meals were taken care of either by individuals or small groups. The typical organizational unit was the so-called rotte, a smaller group of soldiers who functioned together not only in combat but also in everyday life. Members of the rotte often prepared their own food or took turns.
Safety warnings
A frying pan over an open fire gets hot very quickly, including the handle and the hanging hook. Therefore, always use protective gloves or a thick cloth when handling to prevent burns. Never leave an empty pan exposed to direct heat for a prolonged period of time, as it may be deformed or damaged. Also avoid prolonged contact with highly acidic foods, which can erode the protective layer (patina) and shorten the life of the surface.
